is an international arts project featuring and supporting Dalit 'untouchable' children in south-east India.
The project is in three parts:
a full-length album composed and recorded by Edinburgh-based art-pop band Marram with the children of the Light of Love Children's Home
a 29-track compilation album of exclusive new tracks from celebrated international artists, each using samples of the Light of Love Children’s Choir taken from Marram's Sun Choir album
a 70 minute feature film starring the children of the Light Of Love Children’s Home
Alongside the work of the Transgressive North and the children of the Light of Love Children's Home, the project features contributions from musicians such as; Bear in Heaven, Margaret Bennett, Califone, Capybara, Jarvis Cocker, Dan Deacon, Deerhoof, doseone, El Guincho, Four Tet, Gang Gang Dance, High Places, Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), Julian Lynch, Keepaway, Lucky Dragons, Marram, Matthewdavid, Max Tundra, No Age, Owen Pallett, Physical Forms, Ramona Falls, rRoxymore, Rustie, Slanter, Son Lux, Sun Airway, Taken By Trees, The Ruby Suns, White Hinterland and Yacht; and Scottish writers and poets Irvine Welsh, Valerie Gillies, Tom Leonard and Alexander McCall Smith.
The goal of the Everything is New project is to empower the children of the Light of Love Children's Home, many of whom have been rescued from bonded labour, child prostitution, homelessness and abject poverty. The project creates the opportunity for the children to 'star' in the cultural forms they themselves consider most meaningful - popular music and cinema.
Proceeds from the Everything is New project go to Scottish Love in Action, an Edinburgh-based charity which supports the Light of Love Children's Home and rescues, houses and educates destitute children elsewhere in India. A smaller percentage of proceeds goes to Transgressive North to help run similar outreach projects in the future.
